Sound Familiar?

Does this sound familiar?

  • You have had, or are scheduled for, a joint replacement
  • Motion in the new joint is still limited
  • Strength around the joint has not caught up yet
  • Walking or daily tasks still feel harder than expected
  • You are unsure what is safe to do at this stage
  • You want a clear plan rather than guessing at home

Why It Happens

Total Joint Replacement: what changed.

A joint replacement addresses the worn-out joint itself, but the muscles around it have often weakened for months or years leading up to surgery, and they do not automatically catch up just because the joint was replaced. Rehabilitation is what actually restores full function.

The Honest Truth

More time is not a plan.

If you wait and watch

  • Strength and motion can plateau below what the new joint allows
  • Walking and daily function may not fully return without dedicated work
  • Confidence in the joint may lag behind its actual healing

If you call this week

  • An evaluation coordinated with your surgeon's specific protocol
  • A plan that rebuilds strength and motion around your new joint
  • The same physical therapist tracking your progress toward full function

No one has ever told us they started too early. Plenty have told us they wish they had called sooner.

How We Work On It

The same four phases. Built around total joint replacement.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here is what the four phases look like.

Weeks 1–2

Pain

Work within your surgeon's early protocol.

We manage pain and swelling and work strictly within the motion and activity your surgeon's protocol allows this early.

Weeks 2–6

Prime

Rebuild motion and foundational strength.

We rebuild range of motion and the foundational strength around the new joint, progressing as your protocol allows.

Weeks 6–12

Perform

Return to walking and daily activity.

We reintroduce full walking, stairs, and the daily tasks you are working to get back to, at a safe, steady pace.

Week 12+

Prevent

Clear you against real function.

We track your progress against functional criteria, and tell you specifically what remains before you are fully recovered.

After having hip replacement surgery I went to AccuCare for my physical therapy. She was wonderful. She pushed me and in 2 weeks I was walking 1 to 1 and a half miles, 3 to 4 times a week, without a walker or cane.

Questions, Answered

What people ask about total joint replacement.

Often within a day or two after surgery, sometimes sooner, following your surgeon's specific protocol. Early movement generally supports a better outcome.

Most patients see significant improvement within a few months, with continued gains up to a year, depending on the joint and your starting point.
