Childhood Apraxia of Speech
Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a complex motor speech disorder that can make it difficult for children to express themselves verbally. While children with CAS generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say, they struggle with the complex motor movements needed for intelligible speech. As Pediatric Therapists specializing in CAS, we have the expertise needed to help children overcome these challenges and improve their communication skills.
Our approach to treating CAS is based on a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of each child. Through a combination of personalized therapy and targeted exercises, we work to address the underlying motor planning and coordination difficulties that are characteristic of this disorder. By working closely with parents and other caregivers, we have been able to provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure that progress is maintained over time.
At the heart of our approach is a commitment to providing the highest quality care to every child we work with. Whether your child is struggling with a specific speech sound or facing more complex challenges, we are here to help. With our expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech and dedication to helping children succeed, we’re confident that we can make a positive difference in the lives of your child and your family.
Does Your Child In Batavia Have Apraxia?
Not all children with CAS are the same. Your child may show some or all of the signs below. You should request an appointment with our pediatric speech therapist if your child is 3 years old or older and
- does not always say words the same way every time;
- tends to put stress on the wrong syllable or word;
- distorts or changes sounds; or
- speech is difficult to understand and can say shorter words more clearly than longer words.
Children with CAS may have other problems, including:
- difficulty with fine motor skills;
- delayed language; or
- problems with reading, spelling, and writing.
