Michaela McCabe has gained speech-language pathology experience in a variety of pediatric and adult settings, including elementary schools, outpatient therapy facilities, a fluency summer camp, and a cleft and craniofacial specialty clinic. She received her bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing sciences and vocal performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Michaela specializes in speech sound disorders, social language, expressive and receptive language, fluency, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), feeding and swallowing disorders, and voice disorders. Michaela also has valuable experience in language intervention research. She completed a master’s thesis focused on comparing implicit- versus explicit-based language instruction approaches and will be presenting the results of this research at the 2021 ASHA Convention. Additionally, she completed a fellowship with the Minnesota Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program (MNLEND), which enabled her to develop knowledge in the areas of disability policy, disability self-advocacy and allyship, and interdisciplinary perspective taking. Recently, Michaela published her first academic paper, titled Putting Policy into Practice: Impact of the Every Student Succeeds Act on Speech-Language Pathologists and Students with Disabilities in the Journal of Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools.
